About us

"I find it incredible that just 50 atoms can out-perform room-sized supercomputers. I've seen this go from ludicrous to possible to within our reach. We can achieve this amazing feat by following nature’s lead, not fighting it; we are embracing the counter intuitive behaviour of the quantum world to achieve things that we can only dream about today."

Our story

Oxford Ionics is led by two Founders, Chris Ballance and Tom Harty, who have been working at the frontier of Quantum Computing for over a decade. Together their work defines the state of the art of the field, including world-records for the highest performance quantum operations, longest quantum coherence time, and highest performance quantum network.

Building on four decades of leadership in quantum physics at Oxford University, Oxford Ionics is unlocking the power of the quantum world to transform the way we compute.

The Technology

We build quantum computers using flawless atomic qubits: ions trapped above the surface of a microchip. Combining the best of photonic and microwave technology allows us to manipulate these qubits with negligible noise and unmatched reliability.

We take scalability seriously, developing the capability to control interconnected qubit registers in parallel and without compromising performance. We are creating the first systems that deliver tangible computational benefits for real-world problems.
